The corded circular saw is typically used to cut material that has been clamped down or held in a vise. With all the technology out there today, it is comforting to know that there are some things that are still maintaining their place in our work or tinkering environment. The saw is then slowly guided across the material until the desired cut is made, or the saw can be a table mounted tool, in which case you would guide the material through the blade to achieve the cut you want.
There are a couple of designs for circular saws, one where the blade is mounted directly to the driveshaft of the motor or the blade is driven indirectly by a perpendicularly-mounted motor via worm gears. Worm gears are screw shaped gears. The first is known as a sidewinder and the second is called a worm-drive saw. The worm-drive saws give you more torque for those heavy materials.
Corded Circular Saw
Various claims have been made about the invention of the circular saw, the earliest recorded claim was in 1762. That is pretty amazing when you think that over 200 years ago this tool was first designed, and we are still using a variation of it today.
If you are a tinkerer, the hand held saw is probably all you will need for those do-it-yourself projects. Table mounted saws are usually for those who handle large projects or make a living building and or remodeling. No matter what your project, a corded circular saw is one of those tools, that when you need one, nothing else will take its place.
