Dremel Rotary tools have been the on the cutting edge of the handheld tool market since their invention over seventy five years ago. A variety of accessories make the Dremel rotary tool uniquely suited for a variety of jobs. Their high speed and low torque allows them to be remarkably precise for a handheld tool, but sometimes more precision is required. Hands can jump and twitch at the most inconvenient times, especially while holding tools. To that end Dremel offers the 220-01 Workstation. It combines a Dremel drill press, tool holder, and flex shaft holder in one compact package.
The 220-01 Workstation is compatible with a large portion of the Dremel rotary tool line. Once the tool is secured to the workstation it essentially becomes a drill press, stationary grinder/polisher, etc. This workstation features a sturdy metal base of 56 square inches with four mounting points for maximum stability, a crow’s nest for convenient storage of bits, wrenches, etc, the ability to hold the tool steady at a 90 degree angle for grinding and polishing, and a telescopic tool stand with the ability to adjust to and height between 16 and 29 inches.
Acting as a Dremel Drill Press the 220-01 Workstation has a variety of handy features such as the ability to drill both perpendicular and horizontal holes, as well as all angles in between in 15 degree increments. Both inch and metric marking on the base insure that each drilled hole will be in the right place and depth markings and depth stop insure that the proper depth will be reached every time.
The ability to turn a Dremel Rotary Tool into a Dremel Drill Press is certainly helpful, but one must remember that a Dremel tool is high speed and low torque. Bearing down and forcing the bit to dig in will only lead to sloppy looking holes. Allow the tool to work as intended, use very light pressure and allow the high speed bit to shave away the excess. All in all if this mount is used properly it is a great addition to any shop.
