Setting Up A PC Security Camera

This article is going to help you set up your PC security camera. A PC security camera will act as a motion-detecting and recording system. The best thing about this is in order to set up your PC security camera is a Webcam and a PC, the software to do so is free.

How To Set Up A PC Security Camera

The first step to setting up your PC security camera is to install your webcam. Whatever webcam you have should have the driver disk and instructions to set up the camera, if not simply go to the manufacturer's website and look up the model number.

After the camera is installed you will need to download Dorgem. Dorgem is an open source program that lets you run your Webcam as a security camera. After you download Dorgem simply launch the installation menu. The first thing you have to configure in the installation in the program is what camera you are using. It should appear on the drop down list. If not you should be able to select a similar camera from the list that will work with the program. Consult the manufacturer to determine what the closest model is.

Once the camera is selected you are almost done setting up your PC security camera. Within the menu there is a preview button that lets you take a look at what your camera can see. Click this button and adjust the camera so that it is in the right spot.

Now that the camera is setup you can click the source button to make adjustments to the brightness, contrast or any other settings. Get the picture to a point where it comes through nice and clear then move on.

The next step is vital if you want your PC security camera to be most effective. Click on options in the main installation window, and then click on the general tab. There you should click a check box for Use Motion Detection. Make sure that this is checked and your PC security camera will be setup to take advantage of this feature.

After that you need to create an area where Dorgem can save the images, which the program will see as storage events. You can choose several methods to store the files, but the easiest is simply to save them to a folder on your hard drive.

And that's about it. Your PC security camera should be set up and ready to go.
